Special Unit 2, a paranormal crime TV series running from 2001-2002 on UPN that lasted two seasons.
Artemis Fowl, a young adult novel series by Eoin Colfer that currently has seven novels released.
While reading the series the last week, I've had visualizations of the characters pretty much set for a lot of the characters, and I flashed back to Special Unit 2... (Though, the only dead-ringer for me was Carl->Mulch.)
- Carl the Gnome and Mulch the Dwarf: habitual thieves; short in stature; said to be foul-smelling
- Detective Kate Benson and Captain Holley: strong female leads; both police; both frustrate their commanders
- Captain Richard Page and Commander Julius Root: anger-management issues; can't stand the thief working with them; know their people are doing the right thing even if it goes against the book and their commands
- Nick O'Malley and Beckett Fowl: eh, I can just picture the kid growing into Nick so easily
- Technician Sean Radmon (1st) and Foaly: talks over everyone's head; wants acknowledgement for their genius
Anyways, made those mental-associations and wanted to share. :D

Last week I read Jack Campbell's The Lost Fleet series, a well-done, six novels. This Tuesday was the release of Dreadnaught, book number one in the new Lost Fleet continuation series Beyond The Frontier. How was it? In the words of the South, "It sure wuzz good!"
( A quick review cut for readers who have not yet read the first books. )
P.S. Let me know if anyone finds out when the next book will be released!!

Pale Demon is the 9th and latest installment in The Hollows series, sometimes alternatively referred to as the Rachel Morgan series, by Kim Harrison. (http://www.kimharrison.net/)
Banned from the flight lists, Rachel teams up with tycoon Trent Kalamack, headed for the West Coast for his own mysterious business. Can a witch, an elf, a living vampire, and a pixy in one car survive for over 2,300 miles?
And that's not counting the assassins on their tail.
This was an interesting one as it showcased the relationships between Rachel and her friends, enemies and just the daily, regular Joe. We're introduces to a bit more of the mystery that are the elves and demon culture, and we also catch up on Rachel, Ivy and Jenks as they continue to struggle with and make sense of all that has happened. Surprisingly, this book ends at a point which could be a closer for the series, hopefully not, so it is must for any fan of the series!

For those that remember Aniverse, or later Sememmon's private server, we are looking for you! Will you read this? Maybe. So, here is hoping I add enough keywords to this post to get it properly indexed while you are searching whatever engine it is you use while remembering "the good ol' days."
Who am I talking to? Absperil, Zoopido (aka Odipooz, peaches), Naru (Narusegawa), Suwa, Shotty, Minty, quixotic, Kyudo, rem00101 (rem), darkbattousai , Junta, sephiroth-X (Seph-X), mako- (mako), kuroyuki, Goldie, and the rest of you bums! We even got zarthsan to come back, so you should too!
Come back to say hi to Ice and Sem and the rest of #sememmon.
And for those who have no idea what I am talking about, well, it's a insider's thing. ;D

I don't own many games, but those I do I have enjoyed and continue to play on and off occasionally. Of all the series I've played, my favorite has to be the numerous .hack (dot hack) games, stories and shows; not just "because they Japanese," but because of the level of detail that they all have and the quality of their interactions. Sure, tying the game with novel series and animation series increase their profits, but when you notice a subtle reference in one to the others, it gives you a sense of being part of the story and involved. ( Read more... )
If you know me, you should know that I seek the stories. Whether they start from TV (Firefly), novels (Dresden), games (.hack) or something else, I do so love a good story. :)

Well, I moved just over a month ago and I still haven't unpacked all my boxes - yet another move like this, but this time it is primarily because I am not using the items in them. I still need to go through piles of clothes to see what I have been carrying around that no longer fits or what I don't care for any more.
But where have I been? Well, as far as posting I have been doing almost all of it on Facebook... Yes, I've become slightly hooked on it from friends to games and have been spending most of my blogging time through it. I am still working on my developmental site and its journal, but I will be primarily switching to Facebook for posts since I usually only have one-liners. Every couple of months I'll come here and post though, so don't un-Friend me just yet. :P
In recent news I visited my sister in Indiana last weekend. I flew there, after missing my earlier flight and racing around to make a connection, and spent the weekend being bitten by Sam, their chocolate lab, and being awoken before noon by kiddies jumping over me on the bed. It was an AWESOME weekend and I was glad to be able to visit. My sister is a nice house with a great view from the backyard, and other than being a kind of small town, I think they are happy to be there. I'll get to see the girls again come Thanksgiving.
I am currently planning to spend some time in December with the folks. I was originally planning to visit the grandparents, but I just don't have enough leeway at work to make a worthwhile trip out there. I love my family out there and will take all my leave next year to visit them. After that, I have a promise to visit CA and then another for Vancouver to fulfill before I can promise any more. :D
This concludes my State of Me address and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Watched G.I. Joe yesterday, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, which is just a benefit of having initally low expectations. ;)
Movies I am looking forward to for the rest of 2009:
- GAMER
- 9 (not to be confused with Nine)
- Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (my favorite childhood book turned into a movie)
- Surrogates
- Where the Wild Things Are (because I've never read it)
- Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant
- The Twilight Saga: New Moon (still undecided actually)
- Planet 51
- and lastly, Sherlock Holmes

For a long time now, I have not slept well. I sleep approx. four to five hours a night, max, and even then I wake up about an hour past dawn feeling like crud and go back to sleep to get that extra hour in. Last Friday I had to leave work because I was not feeling well, and ended up sleeping from about 1pm until 10pm, so I didn't actually "go to sleep" until about 7am Saturday. That night was a repeat of the same early-morning "sleep", so I bought some sleep-aid medicine.
Since this past Sunday, I have used the medicine (Sleepy Time Tylenol) each night until last night, but even with just over 8 hours of sleep, I have woken up feeling worse than normal; my dreams were not happy ones, although not nightmares; and I have woken up every two hours or so. Last night went to bed around 5 or 5:30am, and even waking up with only three hours of sleep, it was the best night of sleep I've had all week. I'll see how this continues, but it looks like even with only four hours of sleep, I'll be more productive - which I haven't been so much this week - and happier than if I continue to use the medicine to help me get what is considered the “normal” eight hours of sleep.
I am interested if anyone else has tried using sleep-aid medicines with any success or failures, or what your take on the whole sleep-aids issue in general - since we see TV commercial for prescribed sleep-aids. I actually wish they'd at least get rid of the "male enchancement" ads that continuously pop-up on nearly every station. >_<

Lately I have been reading a lot of new series. I have read Night Huntress, Kate Daniels, Sandra Faunders, Nicki Styx, Sookie Stackhouse, Blue Bloods, House of Night, Kitty Norville, and Morganville Vampires in the last three or four weeks, plus a bunch of random books of other series that I needed to catch up on. Those series alone account for about 42 books. ,_, They were all well worth it, though it pains me to have so many more series on hold now while I wait for next volumes to come out.
All of the aforementioned series are also being labeled under "Paranormal," which is a new genre for myself, though I find the category fitting. While Science Fiction, Fantasy or even Mystery may be apt categories for them to fall under, I like this new one and hope it catches on with distributors and book stores as well, though I am curious as how and where the dividing line would be drawn between the old genres with an addition like Paranormal.
Anyways, since I just want to point out some great new series I've gotten into and think others might like, I'll leave off the post with these two observations: - True Blood, HBO's adaptation of the Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series, is darker than the books. Even though this is normal of an HBO series, Sookie's grandmother even creeped me out with her expressions and body language while keeping to the book's lines - that is just good acting and gives better clues to some later details. Lastly, I like the twists on the original stories, but dang it, I hate cults and HBO's Fellowship of the Sun creeps me out more than the killer vamps do.
- Blue Bloods would make a killer graphic novel if the YouTube video, a synopsis of the first three books and found here, was any indication of the quality.
